NUKB has lost one of its community, Roy Sidwell - (Roy2 )
Roy was a great bloke, who enjoyed a good laugh, and had a larger than life personality. Unfortunately Roy was killed whilst riding in Scotland with fellow NUKB members, and a few of Scotsy's friends.
Roy didn't suffer, and he passed away doing what he loved, riding his Aprillia Tuono.
Roy's funeral took place on the 6th of July 2007 . As we were told by members of his family, we are all suffering the same loss, he was a member of the NUKB family, and will be deeply missed by all of us on this site. We will miss Roy, he wasn't a lad you could easily forget, he was a Big Man, with a BIG heart, and many members have said, he made an instant impression on people, that wasn't easily forgotton. A roofer by trade, he was with his partner Julie for 20+ years.
Roy's father, told us that he used to visit the local motorcycle shop at a very early age and clean the bikes, just to be around them, and that he mithered him for a 50cc off road bike. His father got him the bike he wanted, and that was it, he was hooked, at 7-8 years old, a biker.
We will miss Roy, he made some brilliant posts, was a brilliant bloke, honest, straight forward talking, never said anything he didn't mean, other than the constant tea drinking / purchasing banter. The service in the church was superb, the vicar explaining that Roy had gone to heaven. I know what you are thinking, - as the vicar said "Dull as dishwater", to quote the vicar "Roy died doing what he loved, and he loved riding his aprillia tuono (badly pronounced), but you know what I mean, his italian bike - I have done a lot of research, as a vicar, on what heaven is like, and it's like that gasp, when you know know your favorite team has just scored, before you jump up and shout, it's like that moment when you you see, for the first time, the love of your life, and it's like going through a series of bends, perfectly, and you know you have done well - heaven to me is like that, forever, for eternity, at the instant when Roy passed, he was feeling that."
Needless to say we were all chocked, as the Vicar explained the above, and for me, that's biking, that's how it feels, and that's why we do it.
My personal thoughts are with Julie, his long term partner since school age, and his family, and all those who were riding with him that day. We will not forget Julie, and as she rides Roy's Roy's last bike, a Suzuki SV1000, we will ensure that we contact her and get her out with NUKB and on ride-outs.
Roy was the life and soul of every ride-out i attended with him, and he will be missed by the entire NUKB community.
Until We Meet Again
Each morning when we awake
we know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache
As we try to carry on.
Our hearts still ache with sadness
and many tears still flow.
What it meant to lose you,
No one will ever know.
Our thoughts are always with you,
your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.
There will always be a heartache,
and often a silent tear, But always a
precious memory of the days when
you were here.
If tears could build a staircase,
And memories a lane,
We'd walk right up to heaven
And bring you home again.
We hold you close within our hearts
And there you will remain
To walk with us throughout our lives
Until we meet again.
The family chain is broken now,
And nothing will be the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.
